Food Porn: Falafel Bar

UPDATE: Since this article was posted, the Allentown location has closed.  Falafel Bar still has their Sheridan location open in Amherst.

Today (May 21st) for lunch I decided to get something new but to also try to be healthy.  Falafel Bar has both of those options, even though Mike and I have visited and splurged like crazy, they have a large menu and I still haven’t tried 3/4′s of what they offer.

Today I tried their Three Sister Wrap, which consists of:

Hummus, Gyro, Fried Eggplant with tomato and Tahini…$6.25

The wrap was great, I’m still new to eating Hummus and the texture still sometimes doesn’t do it for me.  I think it is that “grainy” feel that can be off putting.  But the taste of the gyro meat was AMAZING, the fried eggplant was flavorless but its eggplant, thats to be expected a little.  The only real critique I can give is the sandwich was literally covered with tahini/hummus.  I mean I could barely hold the thing with out wiping my hands constantly.  I understand that most great meals are pretty messy, but this was more annoying then an enjoyable “get my face in there” type of meal.

I also enjoyed a “Spiced Apple” shake with the meal.  This was the treat of the meal, incredibly rich and sweet.  It tasted like Apple Cider and milk combined, but really damn good.  The richness made me drink it slowly over the course of the meal, this isn’t something you could just pound down. But they had a carrot shake and a couple others that looked tempting that I will probably try on my next visit.

I really love food and I love living in the city of Buffalo. I'm here to talk about both of those things.

Falafel bar truely is *awesome food* and good atmosphere. In particular, as the name might imply, they have simply the *best* falafel anywhere, as confirmed by locals and out-of-town friends…

Thought I’d clarify that there is no “elmwood ave” location for this anymore. They’re still on Allen downtown, but also out in Amherst on Sheridan Dr. and with a take-out on Main St. near UB!
