What’s the Best Food You’ve Ever Ate in Buffalo?

fried-lotus2

For those Food Network lovers out there, I am sure you’ve noticed a new series called “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”.  They’ve broken down the show into a group of Food Network personalities talking about the best meals they’ve ever had and having each show have some type of the theme.

What caught my attention was the fried foods focused episode that aired a couple of weeks ago.  So it got me thinking, what are some of the best fried foods in Buffalo?  Sure we all love wings, but what are some of those unique dishes that stick out in your head that when you hear the name of a restaurant you say “oh, you have to get ____”.

So here’s what some twitter followers came up with:

Wings (of course there was some nominees):

  • Gabriel’s Gate
  • Duff’s
  • Donna’z Pizzeria (an old restaurant in the Falls)

Non Wing Entries:

Thank you to the following twitter-ers that contributed, feel free to leave more suggestions in the comments and I’ll keep this list growing.

I really love food and I love living in the city of Buffalo. I'm here to talk about both of those things.

In general the best dinner we ever had in Buff was @Rue Franklin with Lombardos a close second.

Hmmm the best things I have ever eaten in Buffalo…

    May Jens- ginger scallion noodles
    Lombardos- calamari
Left Bank- stuffed hot peppers, and the salad with artichoke hearts, goat cheese and shrimp
Kabab and Curry- Baingain Bharta and Saag Paneer

First would have to be the Chicken Saltimboca at the now defunct Buca Di Beppos – chicken, sage, artichoke hearts,, capers with a wine and lemon cream sauce. It was outstanding and I have done a home version of it.

Second would be the Chicken Souvlaki Melt sandwich at Mythos on Elmwood – I crave it.
