Food Porn: Betty’s

Last month, we knocked another restaurant off the Food Odyssey list.  A friend of mine recently told me all about the lovely brunch specials that our offered at Betty’s.  However, considering I am only in the area when I am working, I only had a chance to try out their lunch menu.

Overall, while we had some sub-par service form an older gentleman who disappeared several times during our meal, our food was great and on the walk over we got to listen to a church blare Luther Vandross during some outdoor gathering.

Betty’s is located on Virginia, about a block away from the Delaware/Virginia intersection.  Essentially the location takes up an entire corner, and is actually in the process of growing with newer seating areas and a larger bar.

That gorgeous dish right there is the Jibarito, which is some grilled chicken, lettuce and tomato on some slices of fried plantains.  Now after eating a Kashi frozen meal that had plantains in it, I have become slightly obsessed with them lately.  I had my mind all set for a steak salad, but when I started reading the description of this dish I instantly knew that was what I wanted.  It was delicious and much more healthier than my normal lunch options, so it really was a win-win situation.

Alli ordered herself one of the lunch specials that day…described as “Home made Pizza : Garlic Spread, Tomato, Fresh Mozzarella, Basil and Kalamata Olives.”  The pizza was very heavy on the toppings, and less so on the crust and cheese.  It was tasty but not the best white pizza either of us has ever eaten.  (Alli edit: It was pretty average, not bad, but next time I will probably try something else).

Bottom line, at Betty’s we had a pretty healthy meal in a gorgeous building.  Our service wasn’t that great, and we never really sure we should go up and pay at the counter by the door or if the server would come back (which is frustrating whenever that happens at any restaurant), but it was an enjoyable meal from a reasonably priced lunch menu (each item was $8.99) and we will surely make a trip back soon.

I really love food and I love living in the city of Buffalo. I'm here to talk about both of those things.
