Contribute 2009

With the economy getting hit pretty hard over the last year, it’s safe to say that local businesses have no doubt been stuggling.  If you haven’t noticed on our website, I strongly encourage going out to eat at local establishments, and with the exception of a few national chains on our website, we try to showcase only independently run restaurants.

An organization called Scentsy is trying to put together a nationwide economic boost that will hopefully positively impact communities like Buffalo.  On October 12th, 2009 they are asking 100,000 people across the United States to spend $50 at a local business.  You can treat the family to a relaxing Monday night dinner.  Or you can go out to a bar and watch the Monday Night Football Game, I recommend Founding Fathers, Charlie O’Briens, BSG or Colter Bay (and I’m sure there are plenty more) and order some beers (maybe even a local Flying Bison) and some wings and you and your friends will surely be close to $50.

If going out to eat isn’t your favorite thing, check out my selection of Buffalo’s finest local clothing options on the side bar.  Listed are some awesome designers that have everything from a Buffalo themed screen tee‘s to an awesome print of Buffalo’s neighborhoods (just bought one myself).

Together maybe we can help boost our economy (even just a little bit).  And in terms of a long term goal, I recommend giving up your chain restaurant habits and start discovering local restaurants.  We are blessed with an abundance of great restaurants in the area, with a wide variety of cuisines.  When you spend money on local products, those dollars go so much farther than spending them at a corporate level.

Thank you to Melissa for letting me know about this event coming up and if you are still curious about this event, I suggest you check this website for more information.  Happy eating and shopping to you all!

I really love food and I love living in the city of Buffalo. I'm here to talk about both of those things.
