I’ve been going to concerts at Thursday In the Square for over 9 years now, and to this day my greatest memory was going to see The Sheila Divine headline a concert back in July 2001.  I was a huge fan of the band and after finding out that their lead singer (Aaron Perrino) was a native Buffalo-ian (Hamburg to be exact) I was even more pumped.  So when I ran across his twitter account, I immediately took out my old Sheila Divine and Dear Leader (his current band) albums and took a trip back.  Aaron currently lives in Boston and is still rocking out as the front man for Dear Leader as well as working as the Head of Strategy for Interactive Agency PROD4ever.  I got a hold of Aaron and asked him to take part in our Buffalo Foodies feature…

What’s your favorite restaurant in Buffalo?

Aaron: I probably would say my friend Mike Christiano’s restaurant the Left Bank is my favorite restaurant. He does a smash up job and every time I’m in town I try to visit. I don’t have a favorite dish there,  I just love the food+ambiance and he really gets what makes an enjoyable evening out.  I also like Hutch’s, and Mother’s.

What’s your favorite bar?

Aaron: It is definitely the “Old Pink“, EVR has impeccable taste in music and is a great DJ. My favorite dark dive bar ever. Plus where else can you pee in an ice filled bathtub?

Where are the best Wings in Buffalo?

Aaron: Mammoser’s in Hamburg, NY. The best, end of story. Try them and feel the love. Different then most wings, they are fried and then finished on the grill.

Any foods you grew up on in Buffalo?

Aaron: Chicken Finger’s at the Now Pizzeria in Hamburg.  They have this hot dipping sauce that is amazing.  My brother bought me a gallon of it for Christmas last year.  Chicken Soulvaki at the Towne Restaurant and Beef Taco’s from Mighty Taco.

Since you’ve lived in Boston, anything you wish Buffalo had more of?

Aaron: Boston has great Thai, Vietnamese, and Indian food.  So I suppose more world cuisines in more places.  I know Buffalo has ethnic food, but not in abundance.  Also I eat many more vegetables since living here.  Buffalo cuisine is heavy on the meat and starch and light on the arugula, artichokes, and fennel.

Buffalo Eats would like to thank Aaron for taking time out to answer some of our questions, I strongly recommend for people to go on Dear Leader’s website and check out some of their free singles that they are sharing off their newest album.  Keep an eye out for their upcoming release STAY EPIC, and if you are going to be in the Boston, MA area tomorrow (Friday October 2nd), buy a ticket and go to their CD Release show at Paradise.
