For fans of 103.3 The Edge in Buffalo, you are very familiar with Josh Potter. He’s worked as the assistant and on air producer on the incredibly popular Shredd and Ragan show for years, hosts Sunday’s Next Wave Show (7 pm to 10pm), and can be found on air Monday – Friday from 7pm to midnight. In addition to being heard on the radio, Josh is an up and coming Stand up Comedian and can be found performing around Buffalo.
Here’s a clip from one of his sets:
Josh took some time out of his busy performing/radio work and answered some questions for Buffalo Eats:
Where is your favorite place to eat?
Josh: My favorite place to eat, hands down, is Alton’s… I’m really big on diners and Alton’s is the epitome of a Greek diner. The other perk is that it’s open 24-hours, which you don’t find a lot anymore unless it’s a chain like Denny’s or something. It’s the perfect place to go and get a sandwich or bowl of soup at 4am…
What types of food/cuisine did you grow up on?
Josh: My father’s side of the family is all Greek, straight off the boat. So, I grew up eating a LOT of Greek food, and naturally, at a lot of Greek restaurants. Buffalo actually has a ton of Greek restaurant owners, come to the Greek Orthodox church sometime and you’ll meet at least a dozen. Places like Pano’s, Towne Restaurant, Spilios, and Hillview (a close second to Altons for me – also 24-hours) are all awesome “Greek diner type” places.
Where would you show a friend from out of town some true “Buffalo” cuisine?
Josh: As you can probably tell, I tend to eat at weird hours. So, for me, the best place I would take someone right off the plane for a unique Buffalo treat is The Old Pink… Steak Sandwich it up… It’s truly incredible. On The Shredd and Ragan Show we were lucky enough to meet some people who worked at the now defunct magazine FHM. One gentleman who worked there, Sam Barkley, is originally from Australia and now lives in New York City. After coming to Buffalo for an event, he now makes yearly returns and the first place he tells the cab to drop him off upon landing is 223 Allen St so he can have a Steak Sandwich at The Old Pink (or whatever its really called).
Where is your favorite place to grab a drink?
Josh: I pretty much frequent the same 4 bars over and over and over and over… Every Tuesday night I go to Nietszches to do a set on Kristen Becker’s Comedy Showcase, so you can find me drinking there for sure, and probably across the street at Staples immediately after. I also hang out at Hardware a lot, I LOVE when they open up that back bar, and the dude who looks like he’s the lead singer of the EELS starts slinging drinks… He makes an outstanding Dirty Martini, I wish I knew his name…
Are there any types of food you wish Buffalo had more of?
Josh: Maybe I am a n00b here, but I think we need more Thai places… I’ve only encountered 2, maybe I’m missing out? Or I haven’t checked out Buffaloeats.org enough? Are there more? If so, hook a brother up because I need me some Thai food!
(Buffalo Eats side note: While there aren’t many authentic Thai restaurants in Buffalo there are several great restaurants that offer Thai options. The King and I, Saigon Bangkok, Thai House, and the Saigon Cafe are some of the best. Most of those restaurants also serve Vietnamese food as well.)

There is the Thai House in Hamburg. I love the place! If you google it, you will find their website and their menu. I guess they have added a couple new items recently but everything I have had has been delicious. Everything can be made to go also.
