Buffalo Foodies: Ginger Geoffery

I’m pleased to announce that WKBW will continue their Buffalo Foodie streak at 3 in a row today!  We are very excited to announce our newest Foodie Ginger Geoffery.  Ginger has held some cool jobs before working for WKBW, she’s worked for CNN Headline News as a sports anchor and has worked for the Dallas Stars and the Texas Rangers.  When moving to Buffalo she got a job at Empire Sports and covered our beloved Buffalo Sabres.  Ginger can now be seen on the Eyewitness News on the weekends where she anchors the 6 pm and 11 pm broadcasts.

Outside of the TV world you can also find Ginger in the theater.  She’s performed with the Amherst Players and is a member of “These Working Actors“.  Here is what Ginger had to say about her favorite places to eat in Buffalo, along with some other foodie thoughts….

Where do you like going out to eat in Buffalo?

Ginger: A couple of summer-time favorite places to eat for me are Mississippi Mudds along the river and Romeo & Juliet’s on Hertel.  Mudds is great for casual dining on a beautiful day.  I like to get the turkey burger and onion rings and sit and watch the water and people.  Romeo & Juliet’s has a great patio for enjoying wine and good food with friends while watching the activity on Hertel.

For more special occasion dining, it’s hard to beat Daniel’s in Hamburg.  The food is outstanding with everything so thoughtfully and carefully prepared.  The servers also know how to make the customers feel like they’re special.

Left Bank in Buffalo is also a favorite of mine.  I always seem to order one of the specials of the day and it’s always fantastic.

Where do you like to grab a drink after work or when you’re out on the weekend?

Ginger: Where to go for a drink is tougher for me to answer.  It’s rare that I go out for a drink.  On those rare occasions it’s mostly likely Mother’s, 31 Club, or Cecelia’s.  Cecelia’s has fun martinis.

If you had a friend visiting from out of town, where would you go to show them a good time in Buffalo?

Ginger: When my out of town friends and family come to visit we like to go to places they don’t have back home.  My parents now always seem to want to go to Tim Horton’s every time they come to town.  When my good friend from New York visited we went to the Anchor Bar for wings and took lots of pictures and sent her home with bottles of wing sauce.  That was fun.  I think it’s also fun to take visitors to the Erie Basin Marina for a quick bite at The Hatch and then an ice cream cone for a walk along the water.

What did you wise Buffalo had more of (food wise)?

Ginger: As for what I wish Buffalo area restaurants had more of… I’d like even more healthy options when dining out.  It’d be great to have a fruit and cheese plate appetizer but that’s a rare find, or fruit or vegetables as a side for a sandwich instead of chips or fries.  Hooray for the restaurants that are already doing this.  More whole wheat pasta and bread options in restaurants would be nice too.

Growing up in Florida, what kinds of food did you grow up on?

Ginger: Food memories from growing up in Florida include Cuban food which I’ve found most people in Buffalo know nothing about.  Many family gatherings when I was a kid included Cuban sandwiches which I don’t consider among my favorite food items.  I describe a Cuban sandwich as cold cuts on thick, chewy bread.  Many of my relatives think these sandwiches are yummy.  Some Cuban food is fantastic such as black beans and yellow rice (my mom used to make awesome black beans that cooked all day long) and Ropa vieja.  If you don’t know what it is you’ll just have to look it up.

Buffalo Eats would like to thank Ginger for taking some time out of her schedule to be one of our Buffalo Foodies.  We’d like to thank the on air staff at WKBW in general for giving such great answers; we’ve had three really excellent articles.  Hopefully some of you readers have found out about a new restaurant or spot you weren’t aware of!  You can follow Ginger on twitter here and of course can catch her on TV every Weekend on WKBW Channel 7 on the 6 pm and 11 pm broadcasts.
