A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Jake (far left), guitarist for The Boy and His Machine except I didn’t realize at the time he was in a band I just though he was a really cool dude. After finding out he was the guitarist of one of Buffalo’s popular local bands (they currently have 2,500+ facebook likes), I knew I had to ask him if he’d like to be on the site.
The Boy and His Machine’s current line up was essentially formed in 2008, since then they’ve toured the United States and recorded a couple EPs. Their most recent EP is called Count On It and was recorded with Paul Leavitt (Circa Survive, All Time Low, The Bled) and can be found on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon. Jake sent me some answers to our usual foodie questions that basically encompassed what the entire band thought of Buffalo’s food scene, here’s what he said…..
Right now, where are some of your favorite places to eat in Buffalo?
Jake: I will forever and always be in love with Globe Market, the Boar’s Head meat and cheese is what really wins me over. Just make sure they toast the baguette for the Turkey Chipotle sandwich and you are well on your way. And my sleeper pick is the Amerhest Ale House – I just discovered their Char Pit Crown Royal BBQ wings and for someone who isn’t a fan of BBQ wings, I could eat this every single day. They are not to sweet and not to spicy with a perfect smokey pit flavor.
Where do you like to grab a drink and hang out with friends?
Jake: Frizzy’s is such a staple in my life because my girlfriend use to live in the apartment next door, but recently I was surprised with Bambino’s on Franklin, their rooftop bar was awesome.
If you had a friend visiting from out of town, where would you take them for a good “Buffalo” time?
Jake: We would start with Breakfast at JJ’s on Kenmore Ave (#7-no “spicy”-trust me.) then we would grab lunch at Panos, head to a show at Mohawk Place to hopefully catch one of Buffalo’s up and coming bands, and then head to Frizzy’s to get drinks, stumble to The Pink and then at 4:30 in the morning fall into Jim’s Steakout and order something you don’t want/can’t remember and go to sleep.
What are some food memories you have from your childhood?
Jake: As a kid I actually grew up in the Oakfield/Batavia area of New York, the two things from that area that you need to know about are Santino’s Pizza on Main St in Oakfield; it is the hands down best pizza I’ve ever had and their fried dough is amazing. Secondly, Sport of Kings aka Sporto’s in Batavia is the best place to end up late at night when you are craving mozzarella sticks, pizza logs, or loaded fries.
What types of restaurants or cuisines do you wish Buffalo had more of?
Jake: A more wide variety of authentic Spanish/Mexican food would be great, but honestly having been able to tour all of the US, we in Buffalo should be super proud of what we have to offer for food.

I’d like to thank Jake the other members of The Boy and His Machine that contributed to our Foodie article and I highly recommend checking out their latest EP from one of the links above. They have a great high energy pop/punk/rock sound that I’ve never grown out of enjoying. Definitely “like” them on facebook to keep in touch with the latest updates about new releases or live shows, or listen to their tracks on myspace.
