For many locals, the name Andre Reed brings back many fond memories from the golden era of the Buffalo Bills. Andre spent 15 seasons playing for the Bills and when he retired in 2000 he was the franchise leader in every Wide Receiver category you can think of. He also finished his career ranked in the top 10 of all time for several receiving categories. So it goes without saying that he should be getting an invite to Canton in the very near future. For what Andre Reed meant to the city of Buffalo for 15 years would be more then enough to qualify as a Buffalo Foodie canidate, but guess what, he’s also now selling a sauce!
This year Andre unveiled his “Over the Middle” (OTM) Sauce, an all purpose sauce that he came up with on a golf course with friends. Now Andre isn’t just throwing his name on any ‘ole bottle of sauce and making a buck from his fame, he personally helped come up with the finished product and a portion of the proceeds are going towards Kids Escaping Drugs and The Second Mile. We got a hold of Andre through twitter and we asked him about his favorite restaurants and hang out joints in Buffalo, some food memories of his youth and more about his sauce. For those who aren’t a big fan of “reading”, check out our video from the Wingfest where we actually met Andre in person…. A longer video of our interview with him will be coming soon…
Here’s what he had to say..
When you’re intown visiting Buffalo, where do you love to grab a bite to eat?
Andre: I love eating at Hutch’s – Hutch always takes care of me when I’m in town, Buffalo Chophouse and Mother’s.
Is there a place you like to hang out with friends when your in town?
Andre: When I come into town it is usually for an event or a Bills game. When I do go somethere to hang out with friends I tend to go to The Big Tree (I grew up at that place) or somewhere on Chippewa.
Do you have any specific food memories from your childhood?
Andre: 4th of July Picnics- Chicken, Clams, Ribs corn on the cob, beans etc. Holidays were always the best.
Why did you create your OTM sauce?
Andre: I was looking for a way to use the blessings I established in football and to fulfill a promise made to my dad Calvin. The sauce is my vehicle to be a “continuing” source of revenue to help Charities in markets where I do business.

We’d like to thank Andre for taking time out of his busy schedule to answer our questions online and at the Wingfest, we’d also like to thank Maria Rambino who helped put all of this together. If you’d like more information on his sauce, check out their official page or like them on facebook. Of course if you’d like to keep up to date with what Andre’s doing, you can follow him on twitter.
