Food Porn: Delish Cooking School and Pastry Shop

When I heard that Delish was going to move to Amherst St. this summer I was excited to see another cool foodie spot joining the up and coming Black Rock area.  However, unless I was in the area, I couldn’t think of why I would go out of my way to make a stop (other than to get Alli some of their awesome red velvet cupcakes).  Then I read Christa Seychew’s article about how they’d be bringing in an accomplished barista from Boston and they’d be serving up some serious coffee (complete with latte art) and I found my reason.

Quick Info:

We stopped in early on a Sunday morning to avoid a busy crowd and we walked into a familiar setting.  With a large glass case (pictured top) and shelves with various cooking supplies, it looked just like Delish did when they were on Elmwood.  Their cases are still filled with cookies, cupcakes and other desserts.  Near the counter they had more baked goods, but I decided on a chocolate peanut butter Woopie pie and Alli ordered her usual red velvet cupcakes.  You really can’t go wrong with ordering something from the glass cases in Delish.  They always have a lot of options that are sure to please any sweet tooth.  I especially recommend the cupcakes.  Normally, I don’t order coffee anywhere (I’m not a big fan of coffee in general) but I felt that I needed to try out something from their menu.  Phil (the transplanted barista) has some serious latte art skills and at Delish he’ll be serving Buffalo another third wave coffee option (didn’t know what that was until I read Christa’s article).   Alli ordered the caramel latte while I ordered the hazelnut latte (both pictured above).  As you can see the presentation was wonderful and like nothing I’m used to seeing (then again I’m not often ordering lattes).  Alli really enjoyed the caramel and I added some sugar to the hazelnut to make it a little sweeter.

The new location doesn’t have a very flashy entrance, you’ll find it by looking for their multicolored chairs in the front of the building.  I think a bigger sign may help attract more customers.  They do have a couple seats to eat and drink there but it’s not a very large dining area, so I guess plan to get your treats to go if you are stopping by.  They are only open until 6 but as soon as the cooking school is open their hours will expand to 8pm (and though I’ve never been, I’ve heard their cooking classes are fantastic).
