Food Porn: Sara’s Deli

Since I started my new job I’ve been making my way around Getzville and trying any restaurant that’s within driving distance for my lunch break.  Sara’s Deli is located in the Crosspoint Parkway, next door to Amherst Ale House and a liquor store.  The interior is pretty simple; when placing your order, you’ll find a lotto machine and cigarette case right next to you.  But don’t let that fool you, Sara’s has a large and diverse menu of Middle Eastern, Greek, breakfast items, sandwiches and burgers.

Quick Info:

Over the last 3 months I’ve tried Sara’s several times and have had some good meals.  This particular trip was with my coworker Kristina.  We decided to stop by for lunch on a Friday and found the place empty.  We were both in the mood for some Greek/Middle Eastern cuisine so Kristina decided to try the Gyro (pictured below) while I ordered the Shwarma.  The Gyro itself wasn’t particularly large but was absolutely loaded with tzatziki sauce and tomatoes and some shavings of Gyro meat.  The pita bread that was toasted on the outside but still had a fluffy, chewy bite.  The order also came with french fries which were hot right out of the friar but had that Burger King type of coating that I don’t really enjoy.

My Beef Shwarma Sandwich (pictured below) was actually quite good.  The didn’t skimp on the beef, which had a really good seasoned flavor and was tender with a liberal coating with their garlic sauce.  The pita used on this “sandwich” was much thinner and crispier then used on Kristina’s Gyro and started to fall apart as I made my way through the sandwich.  The sandwich was pretty large and for someone with a large appetite and at $6.50 it’s a pretty cheap (and somewhat healthy) option.

If you happen to work in the Getzville/Amherst area this is a nice place for a cheap, quick bite.  Every time I’ve eaten at Sara’s the food has taken less then 5 minutes and that’s without ordering ahead.  This isn’t a place your going to eat with a date or for dinner, this is just a good lunch option during your work week.  So don’t mind the wall of energy drinks or the New York State Lotto machine, if you want a healthier lunch option than Burger King, you might want to give it a try.
