A couple weeks ago I found out about The Queen City Experience, a local podcast from four openly gay men who like to talk about their experiences and perspectives of life in Buffalo. Personally, I’ve really enjoyed listening to their podcasts because Jim, Collin, Chris and David have great chemistry and are always entertaining. Topics they’ve covered on the podcast range from new restaurants, politics, things to do for fall season and superheroes. Check out their latest episode here.
We got a hold of the Queen City Experience guys and sent them our usual list of questions, they decided to answer the questions together. Here’s what they had to say about their favorite places to eat, drink and hang out in Buffalo….
Right now, where are your favorite places to eat in Western New York?
QCE: Fat Bobs for their delicious Mac and Cheese. Acropolis for a great breakfast and convenient location. Mythos because everyone knows us there. Hutch’s for the always great food, wine list, atmosphere and great people watching.
Where do you like to go to get a drink on the weekends?
QCE: Just Vino, Vera Pizzeria, 31 Club
If you had a friend visiting from out of town, where would you take them for a good “Buffalo” time?
QCE: As far as tourist venues, Canalside, City Hall, Central Terminal, Albright-Knox, an architecture tour. For Restaurants, Peart Street, Templeton Landing, Chefs, Bettys.
What are some food memories you have from your childhood?
QCE: Collin recalls his aunts delicious Mac and Cheese. David remembers his mom making salsa and potato pancakes. Chris remembers venturing to Pete and Paul’s Polish Cuisine and Lucky’s Texas Red Hots. While Jim was not raised in WNY, any time he smells bacon frying and coffee he is taken right back to his grandmothers kitchen.
What would you like to see more of in Buffalo’s dining scene?
QCE: More organic and vegetarian options and also more affordable vegetarian selections. More authentic and good Mexican and Asian inspired venues and more restaurants using local fresh produce.
What are some of your goals for the podcast?
QCE: To become a resource for the people of Buffalo and expand the podcast to a National and International scale with thought provoking and provocative commentary while promoting Buffalo and our LGBT community and how great our city is.
