I totally could believe it to be a Friday thing, we haven't really seen any other complaints about the place so I'm hoping we just visited on an off night. Otherwise the food was really good, I'd take another try at it.

I've been to Papa Jake's a few times, but for either lunch or an early dinner. Both times the service was immediate and the food great (the Friday fish fry is incredible). I wonder if this Friday-night experience is typical of the restaurant or if this was just a one-off thing. (I couldn't say, having only been there about 3 times.)

Just a quick note - It would probably be impossible for those fries to be cooked in truffle oil since it usually runs around $10 an ounce. Probably just drizzled on top.

LOVE Lagniappes! Stumbled upon it earlier this summer and was blown away by how delicious the food was at such a low price. Got a lobster and steak pasta dish with red pepper sauce for like 16 bucks and it was fabulous.

DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE TASTE OF BUFFALO AND SPENDING MONEY. THINK ABOUT IT: EACH TICKET WAS 50 CENTS... HOWEVER, AT THE ITALIAN FESTIVAL, YOU'RE PAYING IN DOLLARS... SO A SALE OF 6 AT ITALIAN FEST WAS 6 DOLLARS AND SALE OF 6 AT TASTE OF BUFFALO WAS $3 AND YOU'RE GETTING BETTER FOOD. ITALIAN FEST WAS A RIP-OFF AND WE WENT THROUGH OUR MONEY QUICKER AND SPENT MORE ON LESS QUALITY. I WOULD GO TO TASTE OF BUFFALO AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

I agree. I also felt that portion sizes were significantly smaller than last year, and not enough 3-5 ticket items. BUT that didn't stop us from sampling what we wanted.
All in all, we still had a great time, ate a lot of good food, and will still be attending next year ;)
Great reviews :)

Looking forward to reading some Food Porn installments from a younger voice.

We actually had someone order a hot dog (the one with cheese and bacon) and it looked good but I didn't have a good picture of it so I didn't include it. But those fries were good and next time I'll try and save room for a milkshake.

I grew up in Tonawanda, and honestly, don't know anyone that has ever ordered chicken fingers or beef sandwich here. The best things are hot dogs, hamburgers, sweet fries and milk shakes. It's also a great place to go for lunch and sit up top and enjoy the sun.

Ooooooh, I agree with all of the good comments. Great review.
My hubby and I ate there recently-ish, and the CALAMARI is AWESOME! Seriously the best we've ever had. The sauce was so good- with a great little kick of spiciness. (Diavolo, I think.) The calamari was tender and....MMMMMMM! Been thinking about it ever since and can't wait to go back for more!
I had lasagna- which was good, but lasagna is really one of those things that if you make it yourself and love your own recipe, well- theirs was good but I like mine better. (Also- the sauce was different from the calamari sauce that I loved, so I kept wanting that spicy taste instead.)
We also liked the "compliments of the chef" pasta fazole soup and yummy limoncella.
And now I am on my way out the door to eat there again! :)

I had lasagna- which was good, but lasagna is really one of those things that if you make it yourself and love your own recipe, well- theirs was good but I like mine better. (Also- the sauce was different from the calamari sauce that I loved, so I kept wanting that spicy taste instead.)
We also liked the “compliments of the chef” pasta fazole soup and yummy limoncella.
And now I am on my way out the door to eat there again!
